    East Marshall Baseball Preview

    The East Marshall baseball team finished 21-9 last season losing to Denver 1 to 0 in tournament play. The Mustangs will have to replace a lot of seniors including Conference Player of the year Nick Long.

    Key departures offensively include 3 of their top 5 hitters average wise. Nick Long batted 395 with 3 home runs and 17 RBIS. Lane Walton hit 322 with 2 home runs and 34 RBIS. Adam Puumala batted 263 with 9 RBIS and he stole 22 bases.

    Key departures for pitching include ace Nick Long who was 8-1 with a 0.41 earned run average and 86 strikeouts to just 9 walks in 51.1 innings. Adam Puumala went 4-2 on the mound in 44.1 innings he had 2.05 ERA with 46 strikeouts and 8 walks. Parker Angstman, Jared Ridout and Tyler Nablo all pitched as seniors.

    Key players returning offensively include Zane Johnson who batted 319 with 9 extra base hits 8 doubles 1 triple and 29 RBIS. Jordan McAnulty hit 278 with 12 RBIS. Justin Ridout batted 253 with 14 RBIS. The Mustangs will be looking some new guys to contribute offensively.

    Key players returning for pitching include Justin Ridout who went 5-0 in 38.2 innings with a 2.72 earned run average as a Sophomore. Jacob Svendsen went 2-2 in 16 innings with 3.94 ERA. Zaine Leedom pitched 1 inning at Grinnell last year.

    The Mustangs success will depend on how quickly different players step into their new roles. They don’t have a lot of guys with varsity experience so they could be a team where they don’t peak till late in the season. East Marshall will open the season Monday Night at South Tama.
