    Marshalltown Baseball Preview

    The MHS Baseball team is coming off a 21-20 season in 2016. The Bobcats season ended in a 2-1 loss in the Substate play vs Cedar Falls. Key departures for Marshalltown include Joe Rebik who batted 307 with 15 RBI’s, and Jack Greene led Marshalltown with 28 RBIS. Pitching wise Cole Keeler departs after a 6-3 season with a 4.00 earned run average in 42 innings, Jack Greene also pitched going 3-6 with 4.89 earned run average in 53 Innings.

    Key returning players offensively for Marshalltown include their top 3 batting average leaders in Kody Ricken, Nate Vance, and Dru Dobbins. Ricken hit a club leading 354 with 4 Home runs and 25 RBIS in his Sophomore season. Dru Dobbins batted 337 with 10 extra base hits 8 doubles a triple and a home run with 23 RBIS as a Freshman. Nate Vance batted 325 with 15 RBIS, he was also 21-24 in stolen base attempts and he scored 34 runs.

    Key pitching returning for Marshalltown includes their top pitcher in Nate Vance. Vance made 11 starts last season with a 6-2 record and 2.12 earned run average in 69.1 innings. Jordan Smiley made 4 starts a season ago pitching 26 innings with a 1-2 record and 5.12 earned run average.

    Marshalltown has some nice players returning the key to a strong season will be how quickly they can fill the pitching they lost from last years team. The Bobcats will open the season Tuesday Night when they host Newton.
