    Marshalltown Softball Preview

    The Marshalltown Softball team had a tough year winning just 4 games and losing 31 in 2016. Marshalltown’s season ended with a 6 to 0 loss to Waterloo West. The Bobcats were a very young team last year but did lose some key seniors. 

    Key departures for Marshalltown offensively include McKaylee Palmer who led Marshalltown hitting 349 with one home run and 9 RBIS. Jasmine Judge was the only other departing senior hitting 206 with 3 RBIS.

    Key departures for Marshalltown pitching include Jasmine Judge who made 15 starts going 2-12 with a 5.73 earned run average in 90.1 innings.

    Key bobcats returning offensively. Marshalltown returns all but two players off of last years team. Ciara Feldman is the top hitter returning after hitting 237 as a Sophomore driving in 5 runs. Regan Mazour  batted 214 with 3 RBIS as a Sophomore. Madison Finch hit 211 and drove in five as an 8th Grader.

    Key bobcats pitching returning include McKaylee Dawson who took her lumps in the circle going 2-18 with 7.37 earned run average in 108.1 innings her Sophomore season. Abby Breenneke pitched 3.2 innings as a Freshman with 5.73 earned run average.

    Marshalltown has nearly everyone back and has the potential to be an improved team. For Marshalltown to play better they need to score more runs they averaged just 1.7 runs per game. Pitchers need to throw more strikes they walked 73 and struck out 67 last year. Defensively Marshalltown has to improve on a season where they made 62 errors. The Bobcats will open the regular season at Newton on Tuesday Night.
