    West Marshall Baseball Preview

    The West Marshall baseball team went 23-9 last year falling to PCM 10 to 3 on the first night of tournament play a year ago. The Trojans return a lot from last years team and should be poised for a big season. The Trojans will have to replace some key seniors who have graduated.

    Key Departures offensively include Brady Petermeier who led the Trojans with a 407 batting average with 4 home runs and 24 RBIS. Jared Johnson was 3rd on the team in average hitting 380 with 3 home runs and 30 RBIS which was 2nd best on the team.

    Key departures pitching wise is just Garrett Nichols who went 3-1 on the mound with a 2.86 Earned run average in 22 innings. Pitching should be a major strength for the Trojans who return all but one pitcher from a year ago.

    Key players returning offensively include David Disney who led the Trojans in RBIS with 32, he batted 388 with one home run. Ross Randall batted 372 scoring 35 runs as a Junior. Cameron Bannister as a Freshman batted 330 with 19 RBIS. Cody Mead hit 310 with 4 Home Runs and 25 RBIS. West Marshall will have to replace a couple of big bats but they also have a lot back to make a very productive line up.

    Key players returning for pitching include Cameron Bannister who went 5-2 with a .79 earned run average in 35.1 innings as a Freshman. Alex Dickey went 3-0 on the mound in 4 starts he pitched 28 innings with a 1.25 ERA striking out 36 to just 12 walks. Ross Randall went 2-0 in 3 starts throwing 28 innings with a 1.50 ERA. Cody Mead went 4-1 in 5 starts throwing 26 innings with a 1.62 ERA.

    West Marshall has the potential to have a great season. They will have a lot of senior leadership with talent offensively and on the mound. Standing today they look like the favorite to win the NICL West. West Marshall will open up the season on Monday by hosting Madrid.
