AREA HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS RECAP

In high school softball, BCLUW picked up an 11-3, five-inning win over Colo-Nesco, while Iowa Falls-Alden edged South Hardin 3-2 in nine innings.

Greene County defeated Nevada 10-2, and fifth-ranked Grand View Christian topped seventh-ranked PCM 2-1 in eight innings.

Other softball winners included Collins-Maxwell over Baxter 9-1, North Tama over GMG 2-0, and second-ranked Newman Catholic over AGWSR 6-1.

In baseball, East Marshall earned a 5-1 win over Marshalltown. Union handed sixth-ranked Grundy Center a 6-5 loss, while Nevada edged Greene County 5-4.

Colo-Nesco beat BCLUW 10-4, North Tama downed GMG 9-4, and Collins-Maxwell topped Baxter 2-1.

South Hardin outscored Woodward-Granger 12-8 in eight innings. Gladbrook-Reinbeck shut out Oelwein 6-0, AGWSR blanked Hudson 5-0, and Okoboji defeated South Tama 20-0.

TODAY ON THE LOCAL SPORTS SCENE

In high school baseball, West Marshall hosts Lynnville-Sully for a varsity doubleheader beginning at 10 a.m.

Collins-Maxwell plays Ankeny Christian in a varsity doubleheader at the North Polk Middle School baseball field. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 5 p.m.

In softball, West Marshall hosts the Rose Festival Tournament in State Center.

At 1 p.m., West Marshall faces Ballard. At 3 p.m., ninth-ranked East Marshall takes on Ballard. At 5 p.m., East Marshall plays Marshalltown, and at 7 p.m., West Marshall meets Marshalltown.

Collins-Maxwell is at the Oskaloosa Tournament and opens against Oskaloosa at 9:15 this morning.

GMG travels to Columbus Catholic for a noon first pitch.
