SPORTS UPDATE
In high school girls soccer, the Regional Finals wrapped up with A-P edging Beckman Catholic 6-0, clinching their first-ever trip to the state tournament. They’ll join Iowa Falls-Alden, who are also making their first state appearance after advancing as the 8th seed. Both teams face tough draws: Iowa Falls-Alden takes on top-seeded Denver at 10 a.m., while A-P squares off against #2 Assumption at 12:30 p.m. on Field 1. Matches will be played at the Leid Recreational Fields in Ames, right across from Jack Trice Stadium.
Over in high school softball, Vinton-Shellsburg pulled out a 4-3 win over #5 East Marshall, and Greene County defeated #9 West Marshall 8-7 in a walk-off ninth inning. North Butler crushed AGWSR 28-1, Collins-Maxwell shut out Dunkerton 5-0, North Tama beat Rockford 6-2, and #12 GV Christian rolled past Nevada 14-3.
High school baseball scores include South Hardin topping Ogden 6-3, Collins-Maxwell blanking Dunkerton 13-0, West Marshall defeating Greene County 17-7, and Don Bosco outscoring BCLUW 16-5. North Tama beat Rockford 13-3, Wapsie Valley bested Gladbrook-Reinbeck 14-4, Nevada edged GV Christian 5-3, and Riceville took down GMG 15-10.
In state soccer finals, Des Moines Hoover captured the 3A title with a thrilling 4-3 win over Norwalk. Regina Catholic claimed the 1A championship 3-2 over St. Albert. Waukee Northwest defeated Ankeny Centennial 3-1 to win 4A. The 2A final is set for today at 10 a.m., featuring #1 Gilbert against #3 DM Christian.
And in the NBA Finals, the New York Knicks narrowly defeated the San Antonio Spurs 105-104, taking a 2-0 series lead.

LOCAL SPORTS SCENE
On today’s local sports schedule, several area softball teams are in tournament action.
GMG travels to the BGM Invitational, Grundy Center competes in the Hudson Tournament, and South Hardin heads to the Iowa Falls-Alden Invitational.
On the baseball diamond, South Hardin and DNH are both scheduled to play in the Iowa Falls-Alden Invitational. AGWSR will take part in a unique matchup today, facing Union at Busch Stadium in St. Louis with first pitch set for 5 p.m.
A-P is competing at the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Invitational.
Meanwhile, the BGM Baseball Invitational, which was scheduled to include East Marshall and South Tama, has been canceled.
