Sports Update
The Iowa High School State Softball Championships wrapped up Thursday with a pair of top-ranked teams claiming state titles.
In Class 2A, top-ranked Grand View Christian held off third-ranked Wapsie Valley 7-6 to capture the state championship.
In Class 4A, number-one ADM blanked second-ranked Carlisle 6-0 to win the state title.
At the Iowa High School State Baseball Tournament, the championship matchups are now set.
In the Class 4A semifinals, fifth-seeded Pleasant Valley upset top-seeded Sioux City East 5-4, while Indianola defeated Valley 8-1. The Class 4A championship game is scheduled for tonight at 7:30.
In the Class 2A semifinals, top-ranked Pleasantville held off fourth-seeded Cascade 8-5, while seventh-seeded Durant defeated sixth-seeded Unity Christian 9-4. The Class 2A championship game will be played this afternoon at 2:30.
All-District baseball teams have also been announced.
In the Class 1A Central District, first-team selections include Collins-Maxwell’s Austin Boege outfield, Collins-Maxwell’s Cooper Wierson at utility, and BCLUW’s Daniel Zoske at utility.
Second-team honorees include AGWSR pitcher Tristen Dennis, AGWSR catcher Landen Dennis, AGWSR utility player Clay Buseman, and Colo-NESCO catcher Landon Gjerde.
In the Class 2A Central District, first-team honors went to Grundy Center pitcher Judd Jirovsky, Grundy Center catcher Pete Lebo, and West Marshall utility player Beckham DeSotel.
West Marshall’s Evan Siegert earned second-team all-district utility recognition.
The Heart of Iowa Athletic Conference also released its all-conference baseball teams.
For West Marshall, Beckham DeSotel was named first team, Evan Siegert earned second-team honors, while Riley Hanford and Hunter Polley were selected as honorable mention.
